Common ATV Problems. Nothing works perfectly…well at least not forever. That includes your ATV, so that means that you’ll be likely to experience some problems, just like the owners of other ATVs. We’ll show you some of the usual problems that people experience with their ATVs and we’ll even give you some tips on how to fix them: Battery Power Problems: Your battery may be low on power and that causes the ignition to lazily turn over or not turn over at all. This shouldn’t be too hard to fix, though. – Use a multimeter to test the battery. – Charge your battery if you get a reading that is less than 12V. – Hook the battery’s terminals to a battery booster through alligator clips on the charging cables. – Wait for the battery to charge up. – If you notice that the battery doesn’t charge, or that it charges but loses its power too quickly, then it may be time to replace your battery. Ignition Problems: If your battery is fine, but your ignition still refuses to turn over, then you may have an ignition system problem. – Do a physical inspection of your spark plugs to see if you notice any corrosion or gunk on the spark plug itself. – Make sure that there is a small gap in the plug’s spark gap. – Replace the plug if it appears below par. – Use a multimeter to check for a spark in the plug.. Engine System Problems: If your engine is stalling or not working at all this may be caused by things like clogged air or exhaust filters, over-fueling or blocked fuel lines. – Check with your owner’s manual for instructions.
